Bright, simple autumn menus to cook forever! Join Australian author and farmer Sophie Hansen for this workshop celebrating the rich abundance of autumn in Sicily.
Sophie’s food is fresh, generous and, above all, seasonal. She has written five cookbooks and is working on her sixth, plus runs a cooking school on her farm in Australia.
In this workshop, she will share menus and techniques for a lifetime of confident, seasonal cooking. Each day we’ll visit Anna Tasca Lanza’s garden to pick fresh and seasonal produce, we’ll visit the local shepherd and cheesemaker and participate in the local olive harvest.
With this abundance, we will make a new menu every day. Sophie teaches her recipes and brings together menus in a way that will inspire confidence and excitement to take these new ideas and skills home, make your own and cook forever.
Sophie is an Australian food writer and cookbook author. She lives on a farm four hours west of Sydney with her family, and for over 20 years now, she has taught, written and advocated for a way of cooking that is always, always driven by the season. As a farmer and food writer, she writes about, teaches, and celebrates the produce and producer as the star of every meal, and her food is relaxed, colourful and delicious.
She is currently writing her sixth cookbook, co-hosts a podcast about cooking and reading (Something to Eat and Something to Read), writes a weekly newsletter called What Should I Cook this Weekend and above all, she believes in simple, tasty and seasonal food made with love and shared generously.
The people I met: both the staff (kind, energetic, happy, informative) and the other folks in my group. Gathering around the table and laughing, learning and sharing stories is what stands out. And the fact that roosters crow all day which I didn't know. The setting is truly special as well - felt worlds away from the distractions of everyday life and instead in a rich, hands-on learning environment.

My time at Case Vecchie was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The setting is gorgeous, the hospitality amazing, and all of the cooking events were exactly what I had hoped for. I've spent my career in the food business and although I had made a lot of the recipes before I still learned so many things. Emiko is a wonderful teacher-so easy to relate to and a wonderful instructor. I would love to return.

I loved everything, beyond beautiful surroundings, fabulous food, wonderful instruction and opportunity to learn about Sicilian cooking, as well as the knowledgeable and very helpful staff. The flowing wine and other guests, who just happened to be amazing also added to my exceptional experience!

The whole experience, from the accommodations (food, the beautiful location) to all the people we encountered was top notch. The kitchen crew was awesome in every way! I will definitely recommend to friends. David was great, enjoyed his casual style and expertise.
